Football Home Opener Will Affect Parking
With more than 60,000 fans expected on campus for next week's football season opener against Northern Arizona University, Parking & Transportation Services is alerting employees about changes being made to accommodate the increased traffic.
Sun Tran and Cat Tran routes will be affected and some parking permit holders will be assigned to alternate parking areas on game day. The Wildcats take on the Lumberjacks on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
To ensure there is sufficient parking, Parking & Transportation Services is assigning an alternate parking location to parking permit holders in the immediately affected areas: Cherry Avenue Garage, Lots 6090, 6092, 6093, 6097, 6098 and National Championship Drive.
PTS will email information about alternate parking areas to those affected approximately one week before the game.
Parking in many areas will become limited during the course of the day. The Park, Main Gate, Highland and Tyndall garages will be available on game day for limited visitor parking. If you have a permit for an area that becomes full as game time approaches, you may be directed to another area. PTS will have staff at many of the garages and lots, as well as signs directing vehicles to alternate parking.
Sun Tran buses will be detoured to accommodate the closure of the UA Mall for football game festivities. Sun Tran routes 9, 15, 20, 102X and 103X will be unable to serve the bus stop on the UA Mall starting at 11 a.m. Passengers on these routes may board at temporary bus stops on Campbell Avenue near University Boulevard and Third Street. Sun Tran's routes 3 and 9 also will be detoured, to Campbell and Broadway, starting at 5 p.m. due to the closure of Sixth Street near Arizona Stadium.
Cat Tran riders should expect some changes as well. The North South route will operate as normal until 4 p.m. Both the northbound and southbound shuttles will make their last departure from the Sixth Street Garage and the Arizona Health Sciences Center at 4:03 p.m. The Outer Campus Loop route will operate as normal until 4:06 p.m. and then use an alternative route after departing from the Arizona Health Sciences Center. In the evening, the Night Cat will operate only on the western portion of its route. See all of the regular routes here.
